Soundcloud-bound

This post is written as a shout out to one of genius tools which exist in our music industry today: Soundcloud

A music start up which was formed by two Germans - and now has offices across continents (London, San Fransisco, Berlin, Sofia) - has become our main choice when it comes to discover new sounds or bands. We choose them over Youtube because we want to only enjoy the sound. When we want to see the visual, we go straight to Youtube.

We were playing Wet's EP tonight, and when all four songs had been played, Soundcloud gave us non-Wet songs (which means other artists' pieces). This time, all the songs succesfully brought glee to our faces. More over, via their "Recommended" bar, we listened to many new sounds which we never heard of before.

We found some strange band names - there was a little hard time upon reading that. But as the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" goes, we think the same principle apply for this matter. "Don't judge the songs by its band's name".

We're gonna post some of the tunes which caught our ears hard below. Some tunes which we picked here deserve more plays. Another note is, couple of them are available for free download! Happy listening!

Cathedrals - Unbound

Sir Sly - Miracle

CruiserCruiser - Kidnap Me

BROODS - Pretty Thing

Chelsea Lankes - GHOST

Blood Cultures - Indian Summer

Say Lou Lou - Feels Like We Only Go Backwards (Tame Impala Cover)

Francis and the Lights - If They Don't Come Tomorrow

#8 Fader

Lately I've been digging myself to The Temper Trap's songs, and this new habit inevitably brought me back to the first time when I was listening to their Sweet Disposition. Again, my introduction to this Australia-based band came from the radio. Before the announcer told us that its vocalist is Indonesian, I had thought it was native.

(The paragraph above I wrote few months ago. And here I am, trying to continue it with my best.)

I don't really dig them anymore, in fact (it seems that) I haven't dug any musician this year. That could be the main reason why this little space on Blogger rarely seen my update.

Anyway... back to the main topic.

I love love "Fader". My favorite track from all of Dougy Mandagy (vocals), Lorenzo Sillitto (lead guitar), Joseph Greer (keyboards and guitar), Jonathon Aherne (bass guitar), and Toby Dundas (drums) works.

Got my ears glued into it because of its high airtime on the radio I used to listen to every night. There was this night radio show, hosted by two male announcers - whom I adore. The songs which they played during their show leave some marks on my life. Obviously, my musical preference is one of it.

At that time (I think I was in my final year at junior high), the band didn't get huge coverage like they do now. And for the record, "Fader" came after "Sweet Disposition".

Words don't sink, it swims.
- "Fader", The Temper Trap

The vocals and back vocals unite in their own way, making you press the 'play' button again and again. If you're eager to trace their musical root, do listen to this track.

#7 Dark Side

Everybody's got a dark side, do you love me? Can you love mine?
Nobody's a picture perfect, but we're worth it, you know that we're worth it.

The song has a dreamy-mysterious intro, when I heard it first, it was like an opening from a fairy tale movie. The lyric is powerful and beautiful and realistic at the same time. And the singer, I don't have any objection to the way she sings. Yes, I'm definitely in love with Dark Side, the latest single from the winner of American Idol session 1, Kelly Clarkson. She has made her career way beyond the idol-thingy, congrats!

Liking this song very much more than Stronger

If you're looking for a mood booster song, well here is one of your choice. Enjoy! :)

#4 The One That Got Away

Serius). I'm not usually into covers, but this one is an exception. Akan lebih baik jika Katy mendengarkan cover versi Nona ini. Tidak rugi, soalnya bagus (diulang lagi).

Sila dengar di sini, dan biarkan telinga Anda menikmati alunan suaranya. :)

PS. Ey hello! First post after a looong time hiatus! Promise I'll be spending more time to write another music and songs thingy. It feels GOOD to be back, yayness!

#3 Make You Smile

Satu lagu lainnya, apalagi kalo bukan When Your Heart Stops Beating, yang judulnya sama seperti judul album mereka.

Even though Makes You Smile is an old piece (from 2007), it still has its magic charm until now. And that charm is it makes you smile literally when you hear the song ;)

#2 That's What You Get

This song means so much to me. Back to the year 2008, there's this boy whose a fan of Paramore. And because of him, I tried to find out who is Paramore, I did googgling their songs and even memorized it. That's just it. Oh well... This is supposed to be a music diary, right? Cut off those lines. Let me start with the real post! ;')

That's What You Get placed as a second track on Paramore's second studio album, Riot!. The song itself was written by Hayley Williams and Josh Farro, both of them are the band's main songwriters. The point of view of it is however, still from a girl's eyes.

FIRST CUT
And that's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa....

AFTER SESSION
If you keep playing this song over and over on your iTunes, it causes miserable and guilty feelings at the same time. And a little feeling of annoyed (towards that person you once fell in to) is inevitable. Yes.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
The music video of That's What You Get gives me chill. You have to see that, too. Hayley's screams successfully brings the emotions of this song out. She always does it anyway, doesn't she? And what Zac did with their hands and feets on drums.... Not to forget Josh's and Jeremy's part. Best. This song is perfect....... to accompany you in one of your gloomy days.

Now I can't trust myself with, anything but this,
and that's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa..

Cheers,
Erika.

#1 Stay Together for the Kids

Hey ya! How are you doing guys? Hope you're feeling fine and great!

This is my second post here... not much of a number, I know. Haha. But numbers don't matter, yes? Let's just get straight to the point! I'm proud to present new feature on this site! Excited much? You should! ;)

It's called song of the day. And if you carefully read the title, I think you've already known who's gonna be the first musician to be featured today.

Yes, you are right. It's blink-182!!!!

Who doesn't know blink-182? Every one knows their I Miss You and The Rock Show, oh also don't forget Always. But no. I'm not gonna talk about those songs, instead I choose to write Stay Together for the Kids.

Stay Together for the Kids was the third single from blink-182's fourth studio album, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket. The song was written by Tom DeLonge, which tells about his parents' divorce when he was 10 years old.

FIRST CUT
My friend introduced me this song and at first I was like, "Whoa. It's scary." for me, it sounds funny tho now. The intro somehow instantly drives your fantasy to the haunted places. Old-dark houses. Lonely nights. Thunder strikes.

AFTER SESSION
You're gonna feel like having an endless nightmare. And you won't be able to sleep for rest of the night.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
When you're feeling angry or pissed off because things aren't work out the way you want them to be, listen to this song. You can scream along to it and after that, the anger is all gone. You're ready for a (hopefully) brighter day. The song itself shows high amount of disappointment and again, anger. The reason behind the song pretty much shows why I get that kind of feeling every time I hear it. After all, it's really a good song. :)

So here's your holiday, hope you enjoy it this time, you gave it all away.
It was mine, so when you're dead and gone,
will you remember this night, twenty years now lost,
it's not right.

Cheers,
Erika
